Clean up continues at San Juan North Secondary

Of­fi­cials are cur­rent­ly hard at work to en­sure the San Juan North Sec­ondary School is ready for re­open­ing to­mor­row.

How­ev­er, the fi­nal de­ci­sion will come from the Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion lat­er to­day af­ter an up­date is pre­sent­ed by those in­volved in the clean-up and sani­ti­sa­tion process­es cur­rent­ly be­ing car­ried out at the school.

The school was among those af­fect­ed by flood­ing fol­low­ing the heavy rains on Sun­day which re­sult­ed from the pas­sage of Trop­i­cal Storm Karen.

In a re­lease on Tues­day, min­istry of­fi­cials con­firmed all oth­er schools were set to re­open to­day as nor­mal.

Ed­u­ca­tion Min­is­ter An­tho­ny Gar­cia said the flood­ing had led to more ex­ten­sive works need­ing to be done at the school.

Checks this morn­ing re­vealed that per­son­nel from the San Juan Laven­tille Re­gion­al Cor­po­ra­tion (SJL­RC); the Na­tion­al Main­te­nance Train­ing and Se­cu­ri­ty Com­pa­ny Ltd (MTS); and the Com­mu­ni­ty-Based En­vi­ron­men­tal Pro­tec­tion and En­hance­ment Pro­gramme (CEPEP) were in­volved in the clean-up op­er­a­tions as they worked to re­move slush and de­bris from the premis­es.

Of­fi­cials said the school would al­so need to be washed by the fire ser­vices and fur­ther sprayed and san­i­tized be­fore stu­dents are al­lowed back in.

The min­istry has promised to is­sue an up­date lat­er this af­ter­noon.
