A Coast Guard officer and a sergeant attached to the Air Guard are expected to appear in court on driving under the influence charges after they were arrested in a roadblock exercise in Port-of-Spain over the weekend.
The men were among eight people charged after they were found to be above the legal alcohol limit following breathalyser tests in Woodbrook and downtown Port-of-Spain. The Coast Guardsman was tested along Carlos Street while the Air Guardsman was tested on St Vincent Street.
The exercise was led by Snr Supt Floris Hodge-Griffith, Supt Ablack, Insp Deonarine and Sgt Bharath as part of a zero-tolerance exercise to net persons driving under the influence and transporting contraband items. Officers are urging motorists to desist from drinking and driving during the Carnival season as they intend to conduct similar exercises in coming weeks.
