A Coast Guard of­fi­cer and a sergeant at­tached to the Air Guard are ex­pect­ed to ap­pear in court on dri­ving un­der the in­flu­ence charges af­ter they were ar­rest­ed in a road­block ex­er­cise in Port-of-Spain over the week­end.

The men were among eight peo­ple charged af­ter they were found to be above the le­gal al­co­hol lim­it fol­low­ing breathal­yser tests in Wood­brook and down­town Port-of-Spain. The Coast Guards­man was test­ed along Car­los Street while the Air Guards­man was test­ed on St Vin­cent Street.

The ex­er­cise was led by Snr Supt Floris Hodge-Grif­fith, Supt Ablack, In­sp De­onar­ine and Sgt Bharath as part of a ze­ro-tol­er­ance ex­er­cise to net per­sons dri­ving un­der the in­flu­ence and trans­port­ing con­tra­band items. Of­fi­cers are urg­ing mo­torists to de­sist from drink­ing and dri­ving dur­ing the Car­ni­val sea­son as they in­tend to con­duct sim­i­lar ex­er­cis­es in com­ing weeks.
