A police sergeant with 25 years’ experience in the T&T Police Service yesterday appeared in court charged with assaulting a 75-year-old businessman yesterday.
Sgt. Vaughn Waldropt appeared before Magistrate Dubay in the Sangre Grande First Magistrate’s Court. However, the matter was postponed to May 3.
Waldropt was arrested by officers of the Professional Standards Bureau, who acted on a report sent to them by Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith of an alleged assault involving an officer which took place on November 14, 2018. After the investigation was completed the officers sought advice from the Acting Director of Public Prosecution Joan Honore-Paul.
Waldropt, who last worked at La Horquetta Police Station, was arrested on April 5 at his Sangre Grande home by a party of officers from the PSB, after Sgt Dionne Hunte issued a warrant for his arrest. Waldropt was charged for the offence of unlawfully assaulting and beating the businessman.
The investigation was led by acting ACP Totaram Dookhie and included Insp Sheridon Hills, Sgt Cleve Grey, Cpl Randall Rodney and Cpl Darren Khan.
