Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro and Tobago House of Assembly Chief Secretary Farley Augustine have agreed to step up security measures across Tobago, following high-level talks on Friday afternoon.
The two met at the Office of the Chief Secretary, where Augustine called for the establishment of temporary policing units in key hotspots and the use of enhanced intelligence support to strengthen police operations on the island. He also raised concerns about the theft of boats and engines and illegal activity at the Buccoo Marine Park.
To address these issues, discussions focused on establishing a Coastal and Riverine Branch presence in Tobago to improve maritime patrols and better secure the island’s coastal spaces.
During his one-day visit, Commissioner Guevarro praised the encouraging crime trends on the island but urged continued vigilance and stronger collaboration between the police and stakeholders.
“I just want to encourage them to keep up the good work,” the CoP said.
“Their effort is part of an entire system, and everyone needs to get on board to keep Trinidad and Tobago safe.”
The THA said it was committed to working closely with the TTPS to address security challenges and maintain a proactive approach to law enforcement.
Guevarro also visited some police stations and met with divisional heads and officers before returning to Trinidad later in the day.
