The police officer involved in the shooting death of his colleague, Jamal Charles, remains in police custody.
The officer, who is being represented by attorneys Steffon Boodooram and Nala Poodan, has been in custody since Friday after he was discharged from the hospital.
Guardian Media understands that the officer has not given the police a statement and is assisting with the investigations. Police are expected to approach the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions later this week for advice on how to proceed.
Meanwhile, Charles will be laid to rest today, Tuesday, and will receive a partial military send-off after his funeral at Nur-E-Islam Mosque in El Socorro.
Charles, who was a municipal police officer, was shot dead around 3.25 pm last Thursday while on sentry duty at the head office of the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government at Kent House, Maraval. Charles, the father of a five-year-old girl, was shot in the neck and died at the scene. His autopsy stated he died from shock and hemorrhage consistent with a gunshot wound to the head and face.
Charles was shot while he and his colleague were supposedly playing with their Glock pistols at the guard booth at the ministry.
