Two months after the US-donated radar detected millions of dollars worth of drugs in the Caroni Swamp, a pick-up filled with marijuana was found yesterday afternoon after a confidential informant tipped off police.
Police arrested one man in relation to the latest find, which took place at approximately 2 pm. Reports said officers attached to the Central Division Gang and Intelligence Unit (CDGIU), acting jointly with the CID Operations Unit, made the seizure after receiving credible and actionable intelligence from a confidential informant.
According to police, a large consignment of narcotics recently entered Trinidad and Tobago via the South American peninsula and was offloaded at Riverside Marina, Cacandee Road, Felicity.
When police entered Riverside Marina, officers said they saw a white Kia K2700 “parked in a conspicuous and suspicious manner” between two moored vessels. The officers searched the vehicle and found the tray densely packed with several multi-coloured crocus bags. The bags had high-grade Colombian cannabis, commonly referred to as “creepy.” The weight and value are yet to be determined.
In December last year, police, after getting intelligence from the US-installed radar, seized 1,560 kilogrammes of “creepy marijuana” in the Caroni Swamp. A day later, an additional 625 kilogrammes were seized in Point Fortin. Combined, the estimated street value was set at $171,205,320.
