Cops seize knives, glass bottles in J’ouvert clampdown

Of­fi­cers of the In­ter Agency Task Force (IATF), the Port of Spain Di­vi­sion seized a quan­ti­ty of knives, scis­sors and im­pro­vised weapons dur­ing a se­ries of road­blocks ear­ly on Mon­day morn­ing.

Po­lice said of­fi­cers from var­i­ous units be­gan the ex­er­cise at around 2 am, stag­ing road­blocks on the East­ern Main Road and the Pri­or­i­ty Bus Route, near the Suc­cess Laven­tille Sec­ondary School.

The of­fi­cers sup­port­ed by the po­lice Ca­nine Unit searched sev­er­al maxi taxis and cars where they found and con­fis­cat­ed knives, scis­sors, ice picks and glass bot­tles.

The of­fi­cers said they searched a 20-year-old Orop­une man and found a ham­mer.

Of­fi­cers con­fis­cat­ed the ham­mer, how­ev­er he cursed at po­lice.

The of­fi­cers warned the man but he con­tin­ued to re­sist so they ar­rest­ed him.

The ex­er­cise was led by Car­ni­val Gold Com­man­der ACP Kelvern Thomp­son with as­sis­tance from Snr Supt Roger Alexan­der, Supt Spence and ASP Rame­sar.
