Desalcott has advised WASA of a planned shutdown of its Point Lisas Desalination Plant for a period of nine days from October 16-24 to facilitate maintenance works.
WASA says this planned shutdown will have a significant impact on the authority’s overall supply position in Trinidad.
In order to mitigate the effects of this supply shortfall on its operations, WASA said the following will be implemented:
• Re-distribution of supply from the Caroni and Navet Water Treatment Plants
• Implementation of temporary supply schedules (This will be published on the authority’s social media pages: Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp Channel and X)
• Ensure capacity storage at critical service reservoirs
• Increased water trucking capacity
• Special emphasis and arrangements to supply schools, health institutions, homes for aged and other special needs organisations
• Accelerated response to leak repair. Customers are advised to maintain/establish a system of storage over the period of the shutdown and to also manage their water use efficiently, by reducing consumption through the observation of water conservation practices. Affected customers are advised that a limited truck-borne service is available upon request. This can be requested through the following self-service options:
• WASA Services App available via the Play Store or Apple store; or Customer Portal available on the authority’s website.
