PAHO's report into the deaths of several babies at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the Port-of-Spain General Hospital is still outstanding. Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh says as soon as he receives the report the population will know.

Speaking at a blood donation drive in celebration of World Blood Donor Day on the Brian Lara Promenade on Friday morning, Deyalsingh said, just like the parents and the population, he too is waiting for answers.

A three-person team from the Pan American Health Organisation was selected for the independent investigation.

It includes Dr Nalini Singh, Dr Grisel Rodriguez and Dr Gillian Birchwood.

As the ministry commemorates World Blood Donor Day, Deyalsingh is encouraging the population to give blood voluntarily as the country moves away from the chit system which he describes as inequitable.
