The semi-nude body found at the Queen’s Park Savannah (QPS), Port-of-Spain, on Monday, has been positively identified as that of Gabrielle Raphael.
The 24-year-old mother of five, who lived at Covigne Road Extension, Diego Martin, was reportedly identified by a male relative of one her children at the Forensic Science Centre, St James, yesterday.
Raphael’s body was discovered around 6.30 pm on Monday near a baseball training mound located close to the Paddock.
Clad in a pink top alone when she was found, Raphael’s underwear and remaining garments were found strewn near her body, while her weave was also found ripped off and tossed nearby.
Port-of-Spain Divisional Task Force officers supervised by Sr Supt Alexander and Supt Ramsook, along with ASP Walker and Sgt Alexander, were notified on Monday about the body and later found it approximately 100 feet on the western side at the site.
Despite social media claims about her identity on Wednesday T&T Police Service (TTPS) officials were unable to confirm it was in fact Raphael until the positive identification was completed yesterday.
Raphael’s killing comes after a similar incident in 2016, where the body of 30-year-old Japanese musician and steelpan player, Asami Nagakiya, was found at the QPS by workers who were cleaning following the two days of Carnival revelry. She had been strangled and her body covered by dried leaves and branches. (ALP)
