A Dow Village man managed to escape his abductors hours after two men forced their way into his home on Saturday night.
Police said the incident happened around 8 p.m. at Main Street, Dow Village, California. A witness, who was asleep in an upstairs bedroom of the two-storey house, reported being awakened by two men who kicked open the front door. One was armed with a long metal pipe. They went to an adjacent bedroom, grabbed the victim, 25-year-old Luke Rampersad, dragged him outside and forced him into a waiting vehicle, which then sped north along Seventh Street.
Officers interviewed the witness, recorded a report, took a statement and visited the scene. They canvassed the area and interviewed several people. The Anti-Kidnapping Unit and Central Crime Scene Investigators were also notified.
Police later arrested two suspects and seized a vehicle believed to have been used in the kidnapping.
An associate said Rampersad, who works as a grass cutter, escaped from his abductors and returned home around 4 a.m. on Sunday with bruises to his head and body.
The police were contacted, and Rampersad was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital for treatment. Enquiries are continuing.
