Police arrested three people for drug offences and seized three firearms and ammunition during an anti-crime exercise in Freeport on Saturday.
The operation was conducted between 4 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. by officers of the Central Division Task Force, Area North.
The exercise was led by Senior Superintendent Bhagwandeen, Superintendent Glodon, Assistant Superintendent Reyes and Inspector Joseph. Sergeant Ali also took part. Corporals Samaroo and Charran supervised officers during the exercise.
Police conducted patrols, stop and search exercises and roadblocks in Enterprise, Chaguanas, Carlsenfield, Freeport and Felicity.
Officers stopped vehicles and searched persons during the operation. Police focused on vehicles suspected in narcotics distribution, firearm trafficking and the movement of priority offenders.
During the exercise officers went to Mahica Road in Freeport after receiving information.
Police searched an open area near a bridge and found a black bag.
Inside the bag officers found three pistols without serial numbers. Police also found fifteen rounds of 9mm ammunition and eight rounds of .380 ammunition.
Police Constable Sonny seized the firearms and ammunition.
No arrests were made in relation to the firearms discovery. Police said investigations are continuing.
Three suspects were arrested during the operation for drug offences. Police did not release the identities of the suspects up to the time of the report.
The seized firearms and ammunition were taken into police custody as investigations continue.
