An Edinburgh 500 family has incurred hundreds of thousands of dollars in losses after a fire destroyed two vehicles and partially damaged their home on Tuesday evening.
Marla Pacheco, 49, a legal officer with NP, was at home with her 78-year-old father around 5.55 pm when they heard a loud explosion.
On checking, Pacheco saw her father’s $80,000 Hyundai Tucson, which was parked in the garage, engulfed in flames.
The blaze quickly spread to a $250,000 Nissan Qashqai parked nearby before extending to sections of the house.
Fire officers responded, but both vehicles were destroyed. The house, valued at $1.3 million, was partially damaged.
Police were told the Hyundai Tucson had undergone mechanical repairs on Monday.
No one was injured and the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
T&TEC personnel later removed the electricity meter as investigations continue.
When Guardian Media visited the area, no one was at home.
WPC Gunn and PC Kennedy of the Chaguanas Police Station visited the scene. Investigations are ongoing.
