The Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion has launched a full in­ves­ti­ga­tion in­to a vi­o­lent al­ter­ca­tion be­tween a stu­dent and a teacher at the Ari­ma North Sec­ondary School af­ter a video of the in­ci­dent cir­cu­lat­ed on so­cial me­dia.

In a state­ment on Wednes­day, the Min­istry ex­pressed “deep con­cern” over the be­hav­iour cap­tured in the footage, stress­ing that such ac­tions un­der­mine the val­ues of re­spect, dis­ci­pline, and re­spon­si­bil­i­ty that schools are meant to up­hold.

Of­fi­cials con­firmed that ap­pro­pri­ate dis­ci­pli­nary mea­sures will be tak­en against all those found re­spon­si­ble, in ac­cor­dance with the Ed­u­ca­tion Act, Min­istry pol­i­cy, and na­tion­al laws.

“The in­tegri­ty of the learn­ing en­vi­ron­ment re­mains para­mount,” the Min­istry said, adding that it main­tains a ze­ro-tol­er­ance pol­i­cy to­ward vi­o­lence and in­dis­ci­pline in schools.

The state­ment fur­ther not­ed that the Min­istry will con­tin­ue to col­lab­o­rate with school ad­min­is­tra­tions, par­ents, and law en­force­ment to en­sure class­rooms re­main safe and se­cure spaces for all stu­dents.
