The Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice (TTPS) an­nounced a tem­po­rary road clo­sure on Ed­ward Street, Port of Spain, af­ter a fire dam­aged a large tree, leav­ing it un­sta­ble and un­safe.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice, the fire oc­curred ear­li­er to­day be­tween In­de­pen­dence Square South and Wright­son Road. The Trinidad and To­ba­go Fire Ser­vice ex­tin­guished the blaze, but the base of the tree was com­plete­ly burnt, cre­at­ing a haz­ard for both mo­torists and pedes­tri­ans.

As a pre­cau­tion, of­fi­cers from the Cen­tral Po­lice Sta­tion cor­doned off the road­way and are on site di­rect­ing traf­fic and main­tain­ing or­der. Po­lice con­firmed that no in­juries were re­port­ed and no near­by prop­er­ty was dam­aged.

The Port of Spain City Cor­po­ra­tion has been alert­ed and a team is on its way to cut down and re­move the dam­aged tree. The Trinidad and To­ba­go Elec­tric­i­ty Com­mis­sion (T&TEC) will al­so se­cure elec­tri­cal wires that may have been af­fect­ed.
