An elderly man who left his car unlocked when he went into a pharmacy in Arima on Wednesday, surprised an armed bandit who attempted to steal the vehicle when he pulled out his licensed firearm and shot at him.
The 80-year-old man, of Las Lomas, a registered firearm user, arrived at GD’s Pharmacy on Broadway Street, Arima, at 12.45 pm, police said. He saw the suspect open the driver’s door of his car and get inside.
He confronted the suspect, who reportedly pulled out a gun and pointed it at him as he announced it was a robbery.
The victim reportedly pulled out his licensed firearm and fired one shot in the direction of the suspect, who jumped out the car and fled on foot.
