An el­der­ly man who left his car un­locked when he went in­to a phar­ma­cy in Ari­ma on Wednes­day, sur­prised an armed ban­dit who at­tempt­ed to steal the ve­hi­cle when he pulled out his li­censed firearm and shot at him.

The 80-year-old man, of Las Lo­mas, a reg­is­tered firearm user, ar­rived at GD’s Phar­ma­cy on Broad­way Street, Ari­ma, at 12.45 pm, po­lice said. He saw the sus­pect open the dri­ver’s door of his car and get in­side.

He con­front­ed the sus­pect, who re­port­ed­ly pulled out a gun and point­ed it at him as he an­nounced it was a rob­bery.

The vic­tim re­port­ed­ly pulled out his li­censed firearm and fired one shot in the di­rec­tion of the sus­pect, who jumped out the car and fled on foot.
