A for­mer Chil­dren’s Life Fund em­ploy­ee was ex­pect­ed to ap­pear be­fore a Port-of-Spain mag­is­trate yes­ter­day, charged with 13 counts of lar­ce­ny of the prop­er­ty of the Chil­dren’s Life Fund.

Krisas Sookraj, 43, of School Street, Care­nage, was charged with 13 counts of fraud against the Chil­dren’s Life Fund amount­ing to US$15,640.

The in­ci­dents are al­leged to have oc­curred dur­ing Ju­ly 2015, while she was em­ployed as an ex­ec­u­tive as­sis­tant at the Chil­dren’s Life Fund.

The sums of mon­ey were ap­proved by the board of the Chil­dren’s Life Fund to be is­sued as pay­ment to 13 chil­dren, be­tween the ages of three to six years, who were suf­fer­ing from life-threat­en­ing dis­eases.

An in­ves­ti­ga­tion was launched in­to the mis­ap­pro­pri­a­tion of state funds by Snr Supt Tooter­am Dookhie and a team of of­fi­cers from the Fraud Squad. Af­ter analysing the ev­i­dence, in­struc­tions were giv­en by the Di­rec­tor of Pub­lic Pros­e­cu­tions to ini­ti­ate pros­e­cu­tion against the for­mer Life Fund em­ploy­ee.

Sookraj was ar­rest­ed at her home on Wednes­day.

Charges were laid by Sgt Dami­an Thomas, of the Fraud Squad, yes­ter­day.
