A 20-year-old man who allegedly robbed an elderly woman in her home has been granted $150,000 bail.
Tafari Manickchand, a farmer from Mayo, pleaded not guilty to charges of burglary and robbery with violence yesterday during a virtual appearance before High Court Master Sarah De Silva.
The charges stemmed from an incident on April 26 when four intruders accosted a 71 year old woman in her White Ridge Road, Whiteland home.
It is alleged that her hands and feet were tied and several items stolen from her home.
Manickchand was subsequently arrested and charged by PC Mohammed. He was represented by attorney Kiran Panday who made an application for bail. However, the prosecutor objected to bail.
Master De Silva granted bail on the condition that he stayed 100 metres away from the victim’s home, has no contact with her and reports twice a week at the Gasparillo Police Station.
The matter was adjourned to June 4.
