The government has increased fees for births and deaths registration, with changes taking effect on January 1, 2026. The adjustments were made under Legal Notice 480, published in the official Gazette on Christmas Day.
Under the amended schedules of the Births and Deaths Registration Act, fees for registering a child have doubled in some cases. Registration for a child over three months but under 12 months is now $40, while registration of a child over 12 months with written authority from the Registrar General will cost between $100 and $150.
Other changes include:
● Declaration of a birth in another district: $20
● Correcting errors in the register: $30
● General search fees: $20–$50, depending on the type of search
● Certified copies of entries: $25–$30
● Certification of birth or death certificates issued by the Registrar or Superintendent Registrar: $50
● Re-registration of a birth wrongly registered: $100
The amendments update the Second and Third Schedules of the Act, affecting fees for searches, certified copies, and registrations across the country.
