Police are continuing investigations after officers recovered a firearm in the South Oropouche area during the early hours of Friday January 23, 2026.
At approximately 12.30 a.m., officers attached to the Siparia Criminal Investigations Department, acting on intelligence information, went to a mangrove area along Bay Road, Otaheite Bay. During a search of the area, officers found a firearm wrapped in a black plastic bag and concealed among mangrove roots.
Police examined the firearm, rendered it safe, and identified it as a Glock 22 .40 calibre pistol. Officers carried out a further search of the surrounding area, but found no additional illegal items.
Police have made no arrests at this time and enquiries are continuing. Officers are urging members of the public with information that may assist in the investigation to contact the Siparia Police Station or Crime Stoppers.
