A Fire­Pow­er Fire­works rep­re­sen­ta­tive suf­fered third-de­gree burns and was hos­pi­talised in crit­i­cal con­di­tion yes­ter­day af­ter fire­works ac­ci­den­tal­ly dis­charged dur­ing prepa­ra­tions for the In­de­pen­dence Day dis­play at the Queen’s Park Sa­van­nah.

Jen­nifer Cz­erep­ka, 45, from Flori­da, was in the com­pa­ny of Paul Rogers and a third per­son at the Grand Stand, Queen’s Park Sa­van­nah, around 10.45 am, prepar­ing the fire­works for the In­de­pen­dence dis­play, which was card­ed to be­gin at 8 pm

It was re­port­ed that Cz­erep­ka was at­tach­ing an elec­tron­ic match to a fire­work mo­tor hous­ing when it ac­ci­den­tal­ly ig­nit­ed, caus­ing fire­works to dis­charge and ex­plode.

The ex­plo­sion left Cz­erep­ka with burns about the body.

She was rushed to the Port-of-Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal (POS­GH) by a Fire Ser­vice am­bu­lance and un­der­went treat­ment for third-de­gree burns to the full an­te­ri­or of her body.

She was list­ed in crit­i­cal con­di­tion and was lat­er ward­ed in the In­ten­sive Care Unit (ICU).
