A fish­ing trip end­ed in tragedy on Fri­day af­ter 46-year-old Ram­dath Pana drowned off Pt. Ga­le­o­ta Road, Guayagua­yare.

Po­lice said Pana had gone to the beach with a friend, Lalchan Hardial, around mid­day to throw a fish­ing net. Hardial told in­ves­ti­ga­tors he walked about 600 feet in­to the wa­ter, leav­ing Pana on the shore. Min­utes lat­er, he could no longer see his friend and called out for him but got no re­sponse.

Pana’s body was lat­er found face down and pulled to shore, but at­tempts to re­sus­ci­tate him failed. Po­lice said there were no signs of vi­o­lence and a post-mortem will be done at the Er­ic Williams Med­ical Com­plex. En­quiries are con­tin­u­ing.
