Several illegal firearms were recovered and five men arrested during anti-crime exercises across Point Fortin, Guapo, and Siparia between Friday and Saturday.
According to a media release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), the operations targeted priority offenders and included mobile patrols, search exercises, and the execution of multiple warrants.
Around 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, officers on patrol in Fanny Village stopped a dark green Nissan X-Trail along Sunset Beach Road. Inside the vehicle, they found a black Smith & Wesson M&P .40 calibre pistol, a magazine, and three rounds of ammunition. The 34-year-old driver, a contractor from ‘E’ Street Extension, Fanny Village, admitted he had no Firearm User’s Licence and was arrested.
In a separate incident around 9:15 p.m. on Friday, police searched a 49-year-old man in Hubert Town, Gonzales Village, Guapo. He was allegedly found with a Taurus 9mm pistol, a magazine, and five rounds of ammunition. He too was arrested after reportedly admitting to not having a Firearm User’s Licence.
In Siparia, officers executed ten warrants between 3:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. on Friday. The arrests included:
-A 38-year-old man of Logie Street for a committal warrant for malicious damage
-A 28-year-old man of Railway Road for two first instance warrants related to sexual offences
-A 35-year-old man of Dandy Lane for three first instance warrants connected to firearm and ammunition offences
-A 38-year-old man of Gonzales Street for four committal warrants
-A 41-year-old man of Anthony Branch Trace for an affiliation warrant
Several of the men arrested are reportedly linked to firearm and robbery-related crimes.
A bar operation was also conducted at Southern Main Road, Vance River, Guapo, with support from officers in the Point Fortin CID, Gang Intelligence Unit, La Brea and Guapo Police, Municipal Police, the South Western Division Task Force, and the K-9 Unit.
The TTPS said investigations are ongoing.
