Police arrested five men between the ages of 18 and 34 after they robbed a woman at a pharmacy in Trincity and then crashed their car as they fled the scene on Wednesday afternoon.
The 44-year-old woman of Garden Boulevard, La Florissant, D’abadie exited the establishment around 1 pm yesterday.
As she got into her black Hyundai Tucson which had been parked in the car park a man of African descent opened the front passenger door and announced a robbery.
Police reports say the frightened woman jumped out of the vehicle and attempted to run off but was pursued by the suspect who demanded her knap-sack.
As the two struggled, the woman released the bag which contained TT $2,300 in cash; her driver’s permit; and a number of personal hygiene items.
The suspect then got into a beige Hyundai Accent which crashed a short distance away.
As an alarm was raised and the police contacted, an all-points bulletin was issued, following which officers apprehended five men.
Among them were two teenagers aged 18 and 19 of Getwell Extension Pinto, Arima; a 20-year-old of Chaconia Drive, St Clair Gardens; a 24-year-old of Misty Crescent, Sunrise Park, Trincity; and a 34-year-old of St Clair Boulevard.
