Re­ports of flood­ing have be­gun to come in from parts of South Trinidad, this morn­ing, as a trop­i­cal wave con­tin­ues to make its pres­ence felt over both Trinidad and To­ba­go.

Guardian Me­dia un­der­stands parts of Clax­ton Bay and Pe­nal are bat­tling flood­wa­ters.

The Trinidad and To­ba­go Me­te­o­ro­log­i­cal Ser­vice has is­sued a YEL­LOW-lev­el Ad­verse Weath­er Alert, which went in­to ef­fect at 5 am to­day, Mon­day, and which is ex­pect­ed to re­main in ef­fect un­til about mid­day on Tues­day 14 June 2022.

Ac­cord­ing to the Met Ser­vice ad­vi­so­ry, there is a high (70%) chance that the pas­sage of a trop­i­cal wave will re­sult in heavy show­ers/thun­der­storms.

“These con­di­tions are ex­pect­ed to oc­cur in­ter­mit­tent­ly over the pe­ri­od, start­ing with south­ern ar­eas of Trinidad,” the Met Ser­vice notes.

“These thun­der­storms can pro­duce in­tense rain­fall of over 25mm. Street and/or flash flood­ing are pos­si­ble in ar­eas so prone, caus­ing mi­nor traf­fic dis­rup­tions. Elec­tri­cal dis­charges are al­so like­ly,” the ad­vi­so­ry says.

The Met Ser­vice adds: “The threat of gusty winds will al­so be present. These wind gusts may be brief, but are ca­pa­ble of break­ing tree branch­es, dis­plac­ing un­se­cured roofs and loose out­door ob­jects, and can even top­ple over un­healthy trees.”

Mem­bers of the pub­lic are be­ing strong­ly ad­vised to re­frain from wad­ing or dri­ving through flood wa­ters.  The Met Ser­vice al­so is urg­ing cit­i­zens to se­cure loose out­door items and live­stock.
