A 17-year-old girl is nurs­ing a gun­shot wound af­ter she was shot while dri­ving in San Juan ear­ly Mon­day morn­ing. 

Po­lice said around 1.30 am, she was dri­ving a Kia Cer­a­to with her boyfriend along Char­lo Lane off Laven­tille Road when they heard sev­er­al gun­shots. 

The girl felt a burn­ing sen­sa­tion in her left hand, caus­ing her to lose con­trol of the car and col­lide with a parked ve­hi­cle.

The cou­ple im­me­di­ate­ly ex­it­ed the ve­hi­cle and ran to safe­ty. 

Emer­gency ser­vices were called, and the girl was tak­en to the Er­ic Williams Med­ical Sci­ences Com­plex in Mt. Hope, where she is re­port­ed to be in sta­ble con­di­tion.

At the scene, po­lice re­cov­ered four spent 5.56mm shells and sev­er­al 9mm shells. In­ves­ti­ga­tions are on­go­ing, led by PC Mar­shall.
