The East­er hol­i­day week­end con­tin­ued with more road traf­fic ac­ci­dents as a 72-year-old man was left in in­ten­sive care fol­low­ing a crash along the Solomon Ho­choy High­way on Sun­day night.

Po­lice said Swadiq Rasheed, of Tumpuna Road, Ari­ma, was dri­ving north around 8 pm with his two grand­daugh­ters when the ve­hi­cle veered off the road­way and slammed in­to an elec­tric­i­ty pole near the Tarou­ba over­pass.

The im­pact left all three oc­cu­pants in­jured and the ve­hi­cle bad­ly dam­aged.

The girls, ages 13 and 17, were tak­en to the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal, where they were treat­ed for a frac­tured hip and a frac­tured an­kle, re­spec­tive­ly. Both are in sta­ble con­di­tion.

Doc­tors lat­er dis­cov­ered Rasheed was suf­fer­ing from in­ter­nal bleed­ing and rushed him in­to surgery. He is now re­cov­er­ing in the In­ten­sive Care Unit.

Po­lice are con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions in­to the in­ci­dent.- Kevon Felmine
