The Easter holiday weekend continued with more road traffic accidents as a 72-year-old man was left in intensive care following a crash along the Solomon Hochoy Highway on Sunday night.
Police said Swadiq Rasheed, of Tumpuna Road, Arima, was driving north around 8 pm with his two granddaughters when the vehicle veered off the roadway and slammed into an electricity pole near the Tarouba overpass.
The impact left all three occupants injured and the vehicle badly damaged.
The girls, ages 13 and 17, were taken to the San Fernando General Hospital, where they were treated for a fractured hip and a fractured ankle, respectively. Both are in stable condition.
Doctors later discovered Rasheed was suffering from internal bleeding and rushed him into surgery. He is now recovering in the Intensive Care Unit.
