Despite the trials of the pandemic, principals of Cedar Grove Private School, San Fernando TML Primary and Debe Hindu School celebrated as they collected exceptional 2021 Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA) results, today.

"Our results were exceptional, even better than last year," Cedar Grove principal Shaheed Allaham told Guardian Media, as students and parents came to the school at staggered intervals.

He said 22 pupils wrote the exam, 18 of whom passed for their first choice. Seven of these students passed for Naparima Girls High School; three for Naparima College; two for Presentation College; two for St Joseph’s Convent; and the other students for Parvati Girls High School; and one for La Romaine Government Secondary.

Allaham praised the teachers and the parents for supporting the children, saying the pandemic had posed challenges which students had successfully overcome.

At Debe Hindu School, principal Usha Rampersad-Gookool also celebrated, saying three students had secured 100 percent at the Mathematics exams. Most students had passed for their first choice.

Rampersad-Gokool said it took the school one year to arrange devices for all students.

She also praised parents and teachers for their commitment.

And at San Fernando TML Primary School, principal Wahida Mohammed-Narine said 66 pupils wrote the exam, 51 of whom passed for top schools in the city. She said the results were better than last year.

Among those celebrating great results were Standard Three teacher Indra Mahadeo and her son Sarvesh.

"We are elated that he passed for his first choice," Mahadeo said.

And even though celebrations are hampered by the pandemic, parents said they will be rewarding their children at home.

Guardian Media will bring you more as this story unfolds.
