Iere Government Primary School held its Christmas event, Carols under the Stars, on the school grounds on Wednesday evening. The event brought together students, teachers, parents, and community members for a night of music and celebration.
The event featured performances from students. A steelpan group performed, adding a local flavour to the evening’s entertainment. The Singing of Carols was led by the principal Ephraim Ramkissoon, Queen Victoria and Zea Marie Marshall, a Standard Four student with a powerful voice.
Principal Ramkissoon addressed the gathering, highlighting the importance of the annual event. He said the celebration encourages community involvement and provides students with an opportunity to develop their confidence and artistic skills. “Carols under the Stars is not only a festive tradition for our school, but it also allows our students to shine and share their talents with family, friends, and neighbours,” he said.
Teachers and staff were involved in co-ordinating the event, ensuring that students were prepared and that the programme ran smoothly. Members of the Parent-Teacher Association assisted with decorations and refreshments. It comes mere days after the primary school held its Christmas Bazaar, welcoming scores of people from the community.
Parents expressed pride in their children’s performances and said they were pleased with the school’s efforts to create a memorable experience. Attendees were invited to participate in carol singing along with the students, creating a lively and interactive atmosphere.
Carols under the Stars at Iere Government Primary School demonstrated the school’s commitment to celebrating culture, music, and community. The event provided an opportunity for students to develop their skills, for families to connect, and for the wider community to come together in the spirit of the season. — Ryan Bachoo
