'If I can't have you nobody else can' - Woman stabbed by common-law husband

A 35-year-old woman was stabbed and wound­ed af­ter her com­mon-law hus­band threat­ened her not to have any­one else but him at their home in Ari­ma on Sat­ur­day.

Ac­cord­ing to a po­lice re­port, at about 8.30 am the woman was at their Ari­ma home with her three chil­dren (all mi­nors) and her com­mon-law-hus­band, age 45, when an ar­gu­ment broke out be­tween them.

The man then dealt her sev­er­al stab wounds about the head, neck, shoul­der and arms, say­ing "If I cyah have yuh then no­body else cyah have yuh."

He then self-in­flict­ed sev­er­al wounds to his hand be­fore run­ning away.

The vic­tim was tak­en to the Ari­ma Health Fa­cil­i­ty where she was treat­ed and ward­ed in a sta­ble con­di­tion.

Of­fi­cers from the Ari­ma CID vis­it­ed the scene and con­duct­ed en­quiries. State­ments were record­ed from the vic­tim and an in­de­pen­dent wit­ness and the sus­pect was sub­se­quent­ly ar­rest­ed and al­so tak­en to seek med­ical at­ten­tion at the Ari­ma Health Fa­cil­i­ty.

Af­ter be­ing med­ical­ly ex­am­ined he was dis­charged in­to po­lice cus­tody.
