Jamaican granted $60,000 bail for cruelty to a child

A 42-year-old Ja­maican man was grant­ed $60,000 bail with a sure­ty when he ap­peared in a vir­tu­al hear­ing be­fore a Scar­bor­ough Mag­is­trate, charged with cru­el­ty to a child.  The hear­ing took place on Mon­day 22nd Feb­ru­ary 2021.

The ac­cused, who lives at Dutch Fort in Scar­bor­ough, To­ba­go, was grant­ed bail by Mag­is­trate Jo-Anne Con­nor.

Of­fi­cial po­lice re­ports con­firm he was charged on Sat­ur­day Feb­ru­ary 20th with one count of cru­el­ty to a child by WPC Trim of the To­ba­go Di­vi­sion’s Child Pro­tec­tion Unit (CPU).  The charge was laid af­ter WPC Trim in­ves­ti­gat­ed a re­port made to the po­lice by a 12-year-old, that he al­leged­ly was beat­en by a man.

The ac­cused was al­so or­dered to have no com­mu­ni­ca­tion with the child.

He will reap­pear be­fore the court on Mon­day 22nd March 2021.

The in­ves­ti­ga­tions were su­per­vised by W/Supt (Ag) Claire Guy-Al­leyne (Head of the Gen­der-Based Vi­o­lence Unit), Sgt. Mil­lie and (Ag) Cpl Clarke.
