Last week Thursday, a presentation ceremony was held for the conferment of the Japanese National Decoration, “The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette” upon Professor Beverly-Anne Carter, Former Director, Centre for Language Learning (CLL), Faculty of Humanities and Education, The University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine.
The ceremony was attended by Minister of Foreign & CARICOM Affairs, Dr. Amery Browne, Jasmine Pascal, Deputy Permanent Secretary, The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts, Professor Elizabeth Walcott-Hackshaw, Dean of the Faulty of Humanities and Education at the University of the West Indies, and other specially invited guests.
During the ceremony, Ambassador MATSUBARA emphasized that Professor Beverly-Anne Carter’s conferment was well deserved recognition for her exceptional contribution to the promotion of academic exchange and mutual understanding between Japan and Trinidad and Tobago.
Browne, Professor Carter on being awarded the Order of the Rising Sun by the Government of Japan for her contribution to advancing Japan-Trinidad and Tobago relations over the years. He also conveyed his gratitude to Japan for their decision to bestow this National Decoration on an Educator, demonstrating Japan’s regard for the great impact Professor Carter has made on students during her time as director of the Centre for Language Learning (CLL).
Professor Elizabeth Walcott-Hackshaw reflected on Professor Carter’s contributions at the University of the West Indies, endorsing Professor Carter’s far-reaching impact.
