A Nor­man Sab­ga, ex­ec­u­tive chair­man of the ANSA McAL Group of Com­pa­nies, has de­scribed Judy Chang as an "ex­cep­tion­al woman" who left a last­ing im­pres­sion, as he yes­ter­day de­liv­ered con­do­lences to her fam­i­ly on her pass­ing.

Chang, who served as a di­rec­tor at ANSA McAL and ANSA Mer­chant Bank, passed away on Thurs­day.

"The ANSA McAL Group of Com­pa­nies, the ANSA McAL Foun­da­tion and the An­tho­ny N Sab­ga Caribbean Awards for Ex­cel­lence mark with great sad­ness the pass­ing of Mrs Judy Y Chang," a state­ment from Sab­ga stat­ed yes­ter­day.

"We were for­tu­nate enough to know Judy and to work close­ly with her," it stat­ed.

Chang had a dis­tin­guished ca­reer in the Fi­nan­cial Ser­vices sec­tor of T&T, both in gov­ern­ment and non-gov­ern­men­tal in­sti­tu­tions.

She was award­ed a Cha­co­nia Medal Sil­ver for busi­ness in 1999 and re­tired as Fi­nan­cial Ser­vices Om­buds­man in April 2008.

Chang was ap­point­ed as a di­rec­tor on ANSA McAL's Par­ent Board from June 28, 2008, un­til May 31, 2012.

She was al­so a di­rec­tor on the Board of ANSA Mer­chant Bank from Ju­ly 31, 2012, to April 30, 2016.

"Judy left a last­ing im­pres­sion as a di­rec­tor of the ANSA McAL Foun­da­tion and as a mem­ber of the ANSA Caribbean Awards’ Re­gion­al Em­i­nent Per­sons Pan­el from its in­cep­tion in 2005," the re­lease stat­ed.

"Her tire­less ef­forts in pri­vate and pub­lic sec­tors earned her the re­spect of her peers who were in­spired by her com­mit­ment to ef­fect change and im­prove the fi­nan­cial well-be­ing of cit­i­zens of Trinidad and To­ba­go.

"We salute the mem­o­ry of an ex­cep­tion­al woman, known for her strength and no­ble en­gage­ments which were far reach­ing. Her lega­cy will stand as an ex­am­ple to all of us to per­sist in our pur­suit of progress."

Trade and In­dus­try Min­is­ter Paula Gopee-Scoon al­so hailed Chang’s stel­lar ser­vice and con­tri­bu­tion to the de­vel­op­ment of the fi­nan­cial ser­vices and busi­ness sec­tors in the coun­try.

“Dur­ing her life­time she con­tributed im­mense­ly to the eco­nom­ic de­vel­op­ment of Trinidad and To­ba­go through ac­tive in­volve­ment in Cab­i­net ap­point­ed Com­mit­tees and the pro­vi­sion of strate­gic sup­port to ad­vance the gov­er­nance and op­er­a­tions of state en­ter­pris­es," a re­lease from the Trade and In­dus­try Min­istry stat­ed.

A memo­r­i­al ser­vice for Chang will be held at the All Saints Church at a date and time to be ad­vised by the fam­i­ly.
