A Norman Sabga, executive chairman of the ANSA McAL Group of Companies, has described Judy Chang as an "exceptional woman" who left a lasting impression, as he yesterday delivered condolences to her family on her passing.
Chang, who served as a director at ANSA McAL and ANSA Merchant Bank, passed away on Thursday.
"The ANSA McAL Group of Companies, the ANSA McAL Foundation and the Anthony N Sabga Caribbean Awards for Excellence mark with great sadness the passing of Mrs Judy Y Chang," a statement from Sabga stated yesterday.
"We were fortunate enough to know Judy and to work closely with her," it stated.
Chang had a distinguished career in the Financial Services sector of T&T, both in government and non-governmental institutions.
She was awarded a Chaconia Medal Silver for business in 1999 and retired as Financial Services Ombudsman in April 2008.
Chang was appointed as a director on ANSA McAL's Parent Board from June 28, 2008, until May 31, 2012.
She was also a director on the Board of ANSA Merchant Bank from July 31, 2012, to April 30, 2016.
"Judy left a lasting impression as a director of the ANSA McAL Foundation and as a member of the ANSA Caribbean Awards’ Regional Eminent Persons Panel from its inception in 2005," the release stated.
"Her tireless efforts in private and public sectors earned her the respect of her peers who were inspired by her commitment to effect change and improve the financial well-being of citizens of Trinidad and Tobago.
"We salute the memory of an exceptional woman, known for her strength and noble engagements which were far reaching. Her legacy will stand as an example to all of us to persist in our pursuit of progress."
Trade and Industry Minister Paula Gopee-Scoon also hailed Chang’s stellar service and contribution to the development of the financial services and business sectors in the country.
“During her lifetime she contributed immensely to the economic development of Trinidad and Tobago through active involvement in Cabinet appointed Committees and the provision of strategic support to advance the governance and operations of state enterprises," a release from the Trade and Industry Ministry stated.
A memorial service for Chang will be held at the All Saints Church at a date and time to be advised by the family.
