The Unit­ed States ac­knowl­edged Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar’s sup­port for US mil­i­tary op­er­a­tions in the South Caribbean Sea dur­ing talks on Mon­day with Deputy Sec­re­tary of State Christo­pher Lan­dau.

Lan­dau reaf­firmed the strength of the part­ner­ship be­tween the two coun­tries and de­scribed Trinidad and To­ba­go as a strong part­ner in the Caribbean, ac­cord­ing to a state­ment from the US De­part­ment of State. He al­so high­light­ed both gov­ern­ments’ joint com­mit­ment to tack­ling il­le­gal nar­cotics and firearms traf­fick­ing.

The Deputy Sec­re­tary stressed the im­por­tance of es­tab­lish­ing a Unit­ed Na­tions Sup­port Of­fice for Haiti. Dur­ing the call, both lead­ers un­der­lined the need for fur­ther in­ter­na­tion­al as­sis­tance to ad­dress in­se­cu­ri­ty and vi­o­lence in Haiti.
