Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar will not attend what would have been her first Caricom Heads of Government meeting since assuming office for the second time.
The 49th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community takes place in Montego Bay, Jamaica, from July 6th to 8th.
Foreign and Caricom Affairs Minister Sean Sobers will lead the delegation, which includes National Security Minister Roger Alexander, Acting Permanent Secretary Randall Karim, Ambassador to Caricom Ralph Maraj, and Director of Caricom and Caribbean Affairs Ayesha Wharton.
According to the Ministry of Foreign and Caricom Affairs, Persad-Bissessar sent written greetings to Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness and briefed her ministers on her administration’s approach to regional relations.
She also held virtual discussions with regional leaders ahead of the meeting on key issues, including the Caricom Single Market and Economy, food and nutrition security, and external trade negotiations.
During the summit, Alexander will meet with Jamaica’s National Security Minister Dr Horace Chang to discuss mutual concerns.
