Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar will not at­tend what would have been her first Cari­com Heads of Gov­ern­ment meet­ing since as­sum­ing of­fice for the sec­ond time.

The 49th Reg­u­lar Meet­ing of the Con­fer­ence of Heads of Gov­ern­ment of the Caribbean Com­mu­ni­ty takes place in Mon­tego Bay, Ja­maica, from Ju­ly 6th to 8th.

For­eign and Cari­com Af­fairs Min­is­ter Sean Sobers will lead the del­e­ga­tion, which in­cludes Na­tion­al Se­cu­ri­ty Min­is­ter Roger Alexan­der, Act­ing Per­ma­nent Sec­re­tary Ran­dall Karim, Am­bas­sador to Cari­com Ralph Maraj, and Di­rec­tor of Cari­com and Caribbean Af­fairs Ayesha Whar­ton.

Ac­cord­ing to the Min­istry of For­eign and Cari­com Af­fairs, Per­sad-Bisses­sar sent writ­ten greet­ings to Ja­maica’s Prime Min­is­ter An­drew Hol­ness and briefed her min­is­ters on her ad­min­is­tra­tion’s ap­proach to re­gion­al re­la­tions.

She al­so held vir­tu­al dis­cus­sions with re­gion­al lead­ers ahead of the meet­ing on key is­sues, in­clud­ing the Cari­com Sin­gle Mar­ket and Econ­o­my, food and nu­tri­tion se­cu­ri­ty, and ex­ter­nal trade ne­go­ti­a­tions.

Dur­ing the sum­mit, Alexan­der will meet with Ja­maica’s Na­tion­al Se­cu­ri­ty Min­is­ter Dr Ho­race Chang to dis­cuss mu­tu­al con­cerns.
