Three days after gunmen ambushed and shot a La Brea labourer during a beachfront lime in Point Fortin, he succumbed to his injuries.
Jamieel Pierre, 24, of Oilbelt Road, Vessigny Village, died from multiple gunshot wounds at the Point Fortin Hospital on Wednesday. With his death, detectives from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations: Region Three have classified the case as murder.
Police said Pierre was with his girlfriend at the Clifton Hill Resort beachfront around 3.30 am on June 1 when she left to use the washroom. Moments later, she heard a volley of gunshots. On returning, she found Pierre sprawled on the sand with gunshot wounds to his chest, back, and neck.
Bystanders rushed to help, placing Pierre in a vehicle and taking him to the hospital for emergency treatment. Hospital staff immediately contacted Point Fortin police, who responded to the scene.
However, the shooter had already escaped.
Crime Scene Investigators recovered two spent nine-millimetre shells at the scene. Police were unable to interview Pierre about the shooting as he had been in a critical condition.
Investigators have not yet identified a motive for the killing, and no one has been arrested.
