Jayanti Lutchmedial addresses last night’s UNC political meeting in San Fernando.

Opposition Senator Jayanti Lutchmedial has called on Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley to say if he’s aware of a purported 2019 T&T Police Service Special Branch investigation report on the alleged activities of a senior Government member.

If, as National Security Council chairman, Rowley had such information, Lutchmedial wants to know why he approved the person to contest a general election and subsequently appointed them a minister.

Lutchmedial brought up the issue at last night’s UNC ‘T&T Speaks’ meeting in San Fernando West.

The meeting, chaired by UNC frontliner Villiana Ramoutarsingh and alderman Colin Lezama, focused on local government and winning the San Fernando corporation.

Ramoutarsingh vowed, “In 2022 we’re going to take it!”

Lutchmedial said, “We’re in difficult times, made more difficult by PNM’s mismanagement and incompetence—crime is out of control. We’ve seen escalation in gun violence in San Fernando areas, South Park, Coconut Drive, busy High Street, at midday. A rising trend—at night dogs barking and when you look out your windows, persons stealing cable.”

Lutchmedial, who said the purported Special Branch report had appeared in her mailbox, alleged it was created in 2019 after an investigation.

She said it was sent on July 5, 2019 to the Police Commissioner from the Assistant Commissioner (Special Branch).

The allegations involved two companies’ activities and contract ‘awards’.

“Who did Special Branch investigate? The answer’s deeply disturbing. But what’s more disturbing is the fact that the subject has only risen to higher heights, promoted in the political arena, after this report. Worse—promoted by those who claim to be the biggest white-collar crime fighters,” she alleged.
