A 28-year-old man is nurs­ing se­ri­ous in­juries af­ter he was re­peat­ed­ly chopped dur­ing a vi­o­lent al­ter­ca­tion with a male rel­a­tive at his Moru­ga home on Wednes­day morn­ing.

Po­lice said Gabriel Di­az of St Mary’s Vil­lage was in the kitchen around 11.30 am on Wednes­day when he be­came in­volved in a heat­ed ar­gu­ment with a rel­a­tive, who lives in the same com­mu­ni­ty.

The dis­pute es­ca­lat­ed when the as­sailant al­leged­ly armed him­self with a cut­lass and de­liv­ered sev­er­al blows to Di­az’s body. Di­az was tak­en to the Princes Town Health Fa­cil­i­ty, where he was treat­ed for mul­ti­ple chop wounds. Med­ical re­ports in­di­cate he sus­tained a deep lac­er­a­tion to the left frontal scalp mea­sur­ing ap­prox­i­mate­ly 10 to 12 cen­time­tres, ex­tend­ing to the bone, along with a se­ri­ous wound to the right hand.

Of­fi­cers, led by PC McMeo, are con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions. A team of of­fi­cers al­so vis­it­ed the scene, record­ed state­ments and in­ter­viewed res­i­dents. Po­lice said the sus­pect re­mains at large.
