A San Fernando man has been slapped with six months in prison for biting off a piece of a security officer’s finger during a scuffle last week.
David Seon, 40, pleaded guilty and apologised for his actions when he appeared yesterday before High Court Master Delicia Bethelemy.
Prosecutor Reagan Ramanan told the court that on September 23, the security officer was on duty at the Unipet Quick Shoppe, at Cross Crossing, San Fernando, when he saw the accused placing items in his pants pocket.
He approached and challenged Seon, which led to a scuffle during which the accused allegedly bit off the tip of the victim’s pinky finger.
Sgt Seecharan was among the officers who responded and arrested Seon.
The victim was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital, but doctors could not reattach the severed part of his finger.
Seon was charged by PC Gosine with inflicting grievous bodily harm.
Seon, who is unemployed, asked the court to impose a fine and offered to pay the victim compensation.
He, however, had several previous convictions for various offences, including cocaine possession, possession of ammunition and larceny. —Sascha Wilson
