A man was gunned down in broad day­light while lim­ing at a bar in El So­cor­ro, San Juan, yes­ter­day.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice re­ports, Clin­ton Jones, 35, was at the bar, along the El So­cor­ro Main Road around 12.30 am, when a masked gun­man walked in and shot him sev­er­al times in front of oth­er pa­trons. The gun­man then ran off and es­caped through a drain.

Pa­trons called the po­lice and of­fi­cers from the North East­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force re­spond­ed and took Jones, of Ajod­ha Street, El So­cor­ro, to the near­by Er­ic Williams Med­ical Sci­ences Com­plex in Mt Hope, where he was ruled dead.

Po­lice from the Homi­cide Bu­reau of In­ves­ti­ga­tions Re­gion II are con­tin­u­ing en­quiries.

Mean­while, in an un­re­lat­ed event, po­lice shot and wound­ed a sus­pect­ed car­jack­er in Laven­tille on Thurs­day.

Ac­cord­ing to re­ports, of­fi­cers from the Port-of-Spain Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment (CID) Op­er­a­tions Team were on mo­bile pa­trol in Laven­tille, when they re­ceived a re­port of the armed rob­bery of a mo­tor ve­hi­cle in Tu­na­puna.

Of­fi­cers lat­er saw the ve­hi­cle, a white Mit­subishi Lancer, along Laven­tille Main Road. The of­fi­cers in­ter­cept­ed the ve­hi­cle near the Rock City area, but two armed sus­pects al­leged­ly got out of the car and fired at the of­fi­cers. The of­fi­cers re­turned fire at the sus­pects, who ran in­to a near­by drain in a bid to es­cape.

With back­up from the In­ter-Agency Task Force, Port-of- Spain Task Force and North­ern Di­vi­sion Emer­gency Re­sponse Pa­trol, a search was con­duct­ed.

One of them was lat­er found hid­ing in a house. He ini­tial­ly pre­tend­ed to be the home­own­er be­fore po­lice re­alised he was bleed­ing from a gun­shot wound to his left side, took him in­to cus­tody and con­veyed him to the Port of Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal for treat­ment.
