A 23-year-old sus­pect from Rio Claro, who al­leged­ly chopped his un­cle af­ter he was re­fused a cig­a­rette, has been de­tained by the po­lice.

Ac­cord­ing to re­ports, around 12.20 pm on Mon­day, the 43-year-old vic­tim was sit­ting in the gallery of his Ec­clesville, Rio Claro home when his nephew ap­proached and asked him for a cig­a­rette.

When he was re­fused, the sus­pect left, re­turned with a cut­lass and chopped his un­cle on both hands. The vic­tim ran in­to the house and was aid­ed by his broth­er.

When Ag Cpl Bil­ly, PC Par­ris and PC Go­ordeen ar­rived at the scene, they ar­rest­ed the sus­pect, who was al­so tak­en to the Rio Claro Health Fa­cil­i­ty for in­juries to his neck.

The vic­tim was tak­en to San­gre Grande Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal where his con­di­tion is sta­ble.
