Yet another individual has fallen victim to a Facebook Marketplace scam, culminating in an armed robbery.
According to a police report, around 3 pm on Tuesday, the victim, a 30-year-old man, went to the corner of Nelson Street and Prince Street, Port-of-Spain, to complete a pre-arranged sale of his iPhone 12 Pro Max for $4,000.
There he met with two men, one of whom brandished a firearm.
Fearing for his safety, the victim was forced to hand over his iPhone, a rose gold Series 5 Apple Watch valued at $1,500, his T&T ID card, driver’s licence, Republic Bank debit card, and $200 in cash.
Following the robbery, the victim ran west on Prince Street to escape.
The first suspect was described as a man of African descent, approximately 22 years old, 5’9” tall, light brown complexion, slim build, with a four cornrows hairstyle, wearing a black, green, and white Polo jersey, black short pants, and black slippers.
The second suspect was a man of African descent, 24-25 years old, 5’8” tall, dark complexion, slim build, with an afro hairstyle, wearing a baby blue jersey, blue short pants, and a white jersey or mask around his face, and armed with a firearm.
Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution when arranging online transactions and to meet in safe, public locations.
