A 30-year-old man was yesterday being treated at hospital for gunshot injuries following an incident in Moruga.
Police said that at about 9.15 am on Wednesday, the Chaguanas resident was walking along an undeveloped stretch of Blas Cha Cha Road with two other men—a 42-year-old security officer and a 36-year-old electrical contractor. The men were about 100 feet behind the victim when they heard a loud explosion and saw him fall to the ground.
They ran to his assistance and found him bleeding from wounds to his left ribs, nose and right forearm. They carried him out of the area and took him to the Princes Town Health Facility, where he was treated before being transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital for further medical attention. He was reported to be in stable condition.
Ag Cpl Gopaul and a party of officers from the Moruga Police Station, along with officers of the Southern Division Crime Scene Unit, visited the scene. However, nothing of evidential value was recovered. Investigations are continuing.
Pensioners robbed by armed intruders
Two female pensioners were robbed by balaclava-wearing gunmen during a home invasion in Princes Town on Wednesday night.
Police said that around 9.20 pm, a 67-year-old woman was downstairs at her home when three bandits, two armed with guns and the other with a cutlass, confronted her.
The assailants ransacked the area and stole $130 from her wallet and a black Samsung A05 cellphone. One bandit remained with her downstairs while the other two went upstairs and robbed a 77-year-old pensioner of $4,050, a white-gold Spanish-link chain with an “S” pendant and a green Samsung A26 cellphone.
The bandits then escaped through bushes at the back of the house.
PC Dennis and a party of officers from the Princes Town CID visited the scene. Investigations are ongoing.
Courier robbed during La Brea delivery
A courier was robbed of cash and several packages while making a delivery in La Brea on Wednesday.
The 62-year-old man, who is employed with JC Apparel and is based at Bradford City Mall, Port-of-Spain, reported that between 1 pm and 1.20 pm he went to Pierre Road to deliver items to a customer identified as Melinda.
According to reports, while receiving directions from the customer and attempting to turn his vehicle, two men emerged from nearby bushes, pointed firearms at him and ordered him to stop.
One of the assailants struck him on the left side of the head with a pistol before robbing him of $2,100 in cash, clothing valued at $3,000, several cases of beverages, a gold ring bearing the letter “B”, a Nautica sling bag and jacket, a debit card and a Samsung cellphone.
The suspects then ran off.
Doubles vendor loses $11,000 in Penal robbery
Police are investigating two separate robberies in south Trinidad that occurred early yesterday.
Police said a doubles vendor was robbed of more than $11,000 outside his Penal home at about 1.45 am.
According to reports, the vendor was preparing to leave for work when he was confronted by two men, one armed with a firearm, and a woman. The trio announced a robbery and demanded money.
The victim was taken into his bedroom, where two of the suspects ransacked the room before stealing $11,200 in cash. The suspects escaped through the back of the house and fled in an unknown direction.
Police conducted searches in the area, but the suspects were not found. Investigators also canvassed the area for CCTV footage, but no cameras were observed.
In a separate incident, a bartender was preparing to close a bar at the corner of Coora Road and Mary Street, Siparia, at about 1.55 am when four masked men dressed in dark clothing entered the establishment. One of the men was armed with a firearm.
The suspects demanded cash, alcohol and cigarettes. The bartender reported that they stole approximately $1,800 in cash, a bottle of Hennessy cognac, a bottle of Absolut vodka, a bottle of Jose Cuervo tequila, a bottle of White Oak rum and a quantity of cigarettes before escaping on foot along Coora Road.
Officers responded and conducted searches for the suspects, but no arrests were made. Crime scene investigators processed the scene and recovered fingerprints.
Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
