Police and prison officers continued searching late into Saturday evening for escaped prisoner Jamal Joseph, who fled the Carrera Island Convict Prison on Friday night.
According to a release from the Prison Service, Joseph’s absence was discovered around 8.32 pm during routine checks. He was serving a five-year sentence with hard labour for larceny of a motor vehicle and was scheduled for release in October 2028.
The Prison Service said emergency response protocols were activated immediately, and law enforcement agencies have been notified as efforts intensify to locate and recapture him. An internal investigation has also been launched to determine how Joseph managed to escape.
Members of the public with information on Joseph’s whereabouts are urged to contact the nearest police station or the Prison Service hotline at 800-7776 (PRSN).
The Prison Service has warned that Joseph is considered armed and dangerous.
