Po­lice and prison of­fi­cers con­tin­ued search­ing late in­to Sat­ur­day evening for es­caped pris­on­er Ja­mal Joseph, who fled the Car­rera Is­land Con­vict Prison on Fri­day night.

Ac­cord­ing to a re­lease from the Prison Ser­vice, Joseph’s ab­sence was dis­cov­ered around 8.32 pm dur­ing rou­tine checks. He was serv­ing a five-year sen­tence with hard labour for lar­ce­ny of a mo­tor ve­hi­cle and was sched­uled for re­lease in Oc­to­ber 2028.

The Prison Ser­vice said emer­gency re­sponse pro­to­cols were ac­ti­vat­ed im­me­di­ate­ly, and law en­force­ment agen­cies have been no­ti­fied as ef­forts in­ten­si­fy to lo­cate and re­cap­ture him. An in­ter­nal in­ves­ti­ga­tion has al­so been launched to de­ter­mine how Joseph man­aged to es­cape.

The Prison Ser­vice has warned that Joseph is con­sid­ered armed and dan­ger­ous.
