A Matelot man was dis­qual­i­fied from dri­ving on Tues­day for one year and fined $5,000 in con­nec­tion with two charges stem­ming from a road traf­fic ac­ci­dent that oc­curred on Sep­tem­ber 30th, 2023.

Reg­gie Wil­son, of St He­le­na Vil­lage, Matelot, who plead­ed guilty to care­less dri­ving and dri­ving with­out a cer­tifi­cate of in­sur­ance, was dis­qual­i­fied by Mag­is­trate Nanette Forde-John when he ap­peared vir­tu­al­ly at the San­gre Grande Mag­is­trates’ Court.

Wil­son was al­so fined $3,500 for fail­ing to have a cer­tifi­cate of in­sur­ance and $1,500 for care­less div­ing.

He was charged by PC Wal­cott, of the Matelot Po­lice Sta­tion, who con­duct­ed fur­ther en­quiries in­to a road traf­fic ac­ci­dent re­port made by a woman.

Ac­cord­ing to the po­lice re­port, at 4.40 pm on Sep­tem­ber 30th, 2023, Wil­son was dri­ving east along Samuel Street, Matelot, and up­on reach­ing the vicin­i­ty of a bar, came in­to con­tact with an­oth­er ve­hi­cle dri­ven by the woman. The im­pact dam­aged both ve­hi­cles.

Fol­low­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions, it was dis­cov­ered that Wil­son did not have a valid cer­tifi­cate of in­sur­ance.
