Despite the torrential rainfall, the San Fernando City Corporation's City Week military parade got off to an early start on Saturday morning.
From as early as 7:30 am, members of the protective services were already gathering at Kings Wharf, San Fernando.
Marching to various military bands, members of all the State security agencies paraded through the streets of San Fernando including High Street, Library Corner, Coffee Street, Royal Road and Circular Road.
Armed with their umbrellas, a few spectators braved the rain to witness the parade.
At Circular Road near the Paramount Building where the parade ended, Mayor of San Fernando, His Worship Junia Regrello, told reporters the event was a success.
"Congratulations to the armed forces and all the officers who made the effort this morning. This is really a great day or San Fernando. As I said earlier on, I saw nobody fainting, so this weather is much better than the hot sun," said Mayor Regrello.
Celebrations under the theme “Let the Celebrations Begin” have been held throughout the month in commemoration of the 34th anniversary of San Fernando achieving city status.
However, the celebrations end this weekend with the Mayor's Ball, which is scheduled for Saturday night, and a car show at Cross Crossing on Sunday.
Mayor Regrello said the commemorative events covered a wide array of issues including COVID-19 issues, mental health issues, educational programmes and performing arts and cultural events.
