Min­is­ter of Home­land Se­cu­ri­ty Roger Alexan­der and Act­ing Po­lice Com­mis­sion­er Ju­nior Ben­jamin vis­it­ed the scene of a se­ri­ous road traf­fic col­li­sion in Ari­ma on Mon­day morn­ing that left five peo­ple, in­clud­ing two stu­dents, hos­pi­talised.

The crash, which oc­curred at around 7.50 am at the in­ter­sec­tion of Olton Road and the Pri­or­i­ty Bus Route, in­volved a garbage truck and a maxi taxi.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice, the garbage truck, dri­ven by Ker­wyn Brown of St James, was head­ing west along the PBR and had sig­nalled to turn north when the 25-seater maxi taxi, dri­ven by Jen­na Galin­do of Ari­ma, col­lid­ed with it while trav­el­ling in the same di­rec­tion.

The im­pact caused the dri­ver of the maxi taxi to lose con­trol and slam head-on in­to a lamp post on the north­ern side of the road­way.

The dri­ver and four pas­sen­gers in the maxi taxi, in­clud­ing two stu­dents of El Do­ra­do East Sec­ondary School, sus­tained mi­nor to mod­er­ate in­juries. Emer­gency re­spon­ders took all five to the Ari­ma Hos­pi­tal for treat­ment.
