Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander and Acting Police Commissioner Junior Benjamin visited the scene of a serious road traffic collision in Arima on Monday morning that left five people, including two students, hospitalised.
The crash, which occurred at around 7.50 am at the intersection of Olton Road and the Priority Bus Route, involved a garbage truck and a maxi taxi.
According to police, the garbage truck, driven by Kerwyn Brown of St James, was heading west along the PBR and had signalled to turn north when the 25-seater maxi taxi, driven by Jenna Galindo of Arima, collided with it while travelling in the same direction.
The impact caused the driver of the maxi taxi to lose control and slam head-on into a lamp post on the northern side of the roadway.
The driver and four passengers in the maxi taxi, including two students of El Dorado East Secondary School, sustained minor to moderate injuries. Emergency responders took all five to the Arima Hospital for treatment.
