Five days after they died in a fire at their Cooblal Trace, Toco Main Road home, 48-year-old Natasha Nancoo and her son Adesh Joseph, 10 were laid to rest.
The funeral service took place at Jesus Deliverance Tabernacle, Vega De Oropouche, Toco Main Road yesterday.
Natasha’s sisters, Aneesa Nancoo and Carol Waldrop recalled her love for her children.
“Everywhere she went one will see her with her children. She lived a very carefree life,” they said.
The sisters spoke of the challenges Natasha faced raising two children with special needs.
Her other son, Enrique Reyes, 19, also perished in the blaze. His funeral is expected to take place soon.
But they said despite the difficulties, Natasha found ways to be happy.
“At a family gathering you will hear Natasha saying ‘oh gosh all yuh play a chutney nah’ and when that music start to play Natasha will take over the dance floor.
“Nashie, as we called her, loved music and dancing. She was always jolly and friendly to all.”
His aunts also recalled Adesh’s vibrancy and his love for food.
“As for Adesh, who is called AJ, he never leaves the fridge door close at night time. He will have ice cream and you can bet your last dollar when you wake up the next morning all the ice cream is finished.”
Melinda Joseph-Lord, Adesh’s cousin fondly remembered him.
She said she never imagined his life ending so soon.
“You don’t expect to find yourself in a place like this on a day like today to mark the end of a life that hardly ever started. But here we all are saying farewell to this beautiful little child, seemingly long before his time,” she said.
Relatives said despite the loss and sadness, they took comfort that Natasha and her sons were dedicated church members and were at peace in heaven.
