Gunshots rang out at Cross Crossing Shopping Centre on Monday morning after a gunman went inside General Accident Insurance and shot a woman, before killing an innocent bystander.
Police believe Rosario Danny Ramdhan, 24, of Springvale, Claxton Bay, died because he happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. His friend and coworker, identified as Kenton, escaped the gunshots as the killer dragged him out of his white Nisan Tiida and escaped in the stolen car.
The incident occurred at 10:50 am when the woman and the two coworkers went separately to the insurance firm to do business. It is believed that the killer went after the woman and shot her inside the office before running out.
Police said Kenton and Ramdhan were sitting in Kenton's white Tiida when the gunman ran out and accosted Kenton as he tried to drag him out of the Tiida. Ramdhan was sitting in the passenger seat. Kenton put up a struggle and the gunman fired a shot which missed Kenton and struck Ramdhan instead.
A witness said Ramdhan jumped out of the car, bleeding profusely and tried to run up the street but collapsed a short distance away. In the meantime, Kenton fled for his life and alerted the police as the gunman drove off with Kenton's car.
The NP Quik Shoppe workers said they heard four gunshots around 10:50 am. The wounded woman, who was shot in the chest, was rushed to the San Fernando General Hospital where she is currently being treated.
Ramdhan's father, Ramnarine Ramdhan, described him as a quiet man who had hopes of migrating abroad. Ramdhan lived with his mother.
