A man was shot and killed near the Tu­na­puna mar­ket yes­ter­day morn­ing, while the in­tend­ed tar­get of the gun­men es­caped un­hurt.

Valmi­ki Nar­ine, 49, of Pasea Ex­ten­sion, Tu­na­puna, de­scribed as a qui­et man who loved to drink and lime, was stand­ing in front of Dar­ryl’s Fa­mous Foods, at the cor­ner St Vin­cent Street and East­ern Main Road, at around 11 am when he was shot and killed.

Ven­dors and shop­pers in the near­by Tu­na­puna Mar­ket scam­pered for cov­er when the gun­shots rang out.

It is be­lieved that Nar­ine was stand­ing next to the in­tend­ed tar­get who was able to es­cape. Eye­wit­ness­es said Nar­ine col­lapsed af­ter be­ing shot in the stom­ach, arm and head by the three gun­men.
