A man was shot and killed near the Tunapuna market yesterday morning, while the intended target of the gunmen escaped unhurt.
Valmiki Narine, 49, of Pasea Extension, Tunapuna, described as a quiet man who loved to drink and lime, was standing in front of Darryl’s Famous Foods, at the corner St Vincent Street and Eastern Main Road, at around 11 am when he was shot and killed.
Vendors and shoppers in the nearby Tunapuna Market scampered for cover when the gunshots rang out.
It is believed that Narine was standing next to the intended target who was able to escape. Eyewitnesses said Narine collapsed after being shot in the stomach, arm and head by the three gunmen.
